IELTS Reading: Multiple choice

Choose one answer from four options, or choose two or three letters from a longer list. The questions test detailed and general understanding, and the single-answer questions follow the passage order.

860 practice sets · 2854 questions · each set is timed at about 90 seconds per question

How to answer

  1. Read the question stem first and predict the kind of answer before you look at the options.
  2. Find the relevant part of the passage, then check every option against it.
  3. For 'choose TWO', treat each option as a True/False check; the two answers can be in any order.

Common traps

  • Options that repeat words from the passage but change the meaning.
  • Options that are true but don't answer the question asked.
